Diaryland is calling.....

The moon is.....

01/29/2002 - 11:28 p.m.

"The moon is the north wind's cookie, he eats it day by day, until there's but a bit of scrap that crumbles all away. The south wind is a baker, he kneads clouds in his den, and bakes a crisp new moon, that greedy north wind, he eats again."

I loved that song when I was a kid. I had a record called "Burl Ives Sings Songs For Boys And Girls," or something like that, that I used to play over and over and over. I loved that record, but especially the north wind song. I don't even know what the song is really called...... though a search of the internet turns up that the lyrics were originally a poem by someone named Vachel Lindsay........

"The moon is the north wind's cookie...."

I went out for a walk a little while ago. It's like spring here tonight - 43 degrees, according to the Weatherbug, which is pretty unusual for late January in New England. The moon is full, and there are thin clouds flying past it - it looks like the set of a play.......

"He eats it day by day....."

Putting things off. Over and over again, I learn and relearn that putting things off is almost always a mistake.

"Until there's but a bit of scrap....."

Tonight, after alleging that I was going to bed, I decided to finally have a conversation I should have had a loooong time ago. Like a couple months ago long. And - it was a drag. It was especially draggy because, surprise surprise, it should have happened a long time ago. The intervening period of not having had the conversation made it all the harder. "Why are you bringing this up now?" was a very reasonable question. Could have been worse, I guess. But - it would have been better for all concerned if I'd stepped up to the plate and addressed the whole business then, rather than now.

"...that crumbles all away."

Anybody have a copy of Burl Ives Sings Songs For Boys And Girls on vinyl? I'll pay good money for it........ or trade a McBoo!

See what I did there? I went and moved my diaryring to a rings and reviews page!
