Diaryland is calling.....
Call Me Now! (866) 206-9067 x3879
<<< die Schatten der Vergangenheit<<< >>> es strahlt, die Zukunft>>>

The best movie of the last 5 years..... at least!

02/01/2002 - 7:38 p.m.

Fuh huh huh huh hug. Last night I saw the best movie I have seen in a looooooooooong time. It's called "The American Astronaut," and you owe it to yourself to see it if it comes to your neck of yon woods. As my pal Sparkley Coworker said 5 minutes into the movie, "It's like they made it just for you." And it is eggzaktlee that. I've already ordered a copy of the soundtrack, and a poster, and posters are not something I buy. And when it becomes available on VHS or preferably DVD, you can bet I will be the first guy in line with crinkly singles salvaged from sweaty pockets to make this thing my own.

So what makes it so great?

I wish I could say better - I only saw it once and it was playing for one night only, and my brain is still reeling from the mega-humongousness of it all, so a true explication of its splendor will have to wait till I can digest it better. But - dig - it's black and white, made for (apparently) very little money, with cheap hotel rooms masquerading as the control rooms of spaceships, full of homages to classic films (Metropolis, Apocalypse Now, Cabinet of Dr Caligari, Buck Rogers, etc etc etc), funny as all gitout, a musical (!), and aimed squarely at my brain! The only complaint I have about it is that I wasn't in it!

It's in limited release, so if you get the chance, just effing go. And if you don't like it, lemme know, and I'll send ya a consolation prize in the mail.....

Oh yeah - I asked Mr 8-Ball if it was a date. he said "My sources say no." And he was right. Thank Memphis.

Music to wax effusive by:
The Billy Nayer Show - "Love Smiles" (The American Astronaut Soundtrack)
"So how can you keep from smiling - when you see yourself in the mirror smiling - just about to say the name of the girl that makes you smile!"

See what I did there? I went and moved my diaryring to a rings and reviews page!
